Adopting a dog

If you are interested in adopting a Westie, please read the following information before submitting an application. The application is designed to help us select the most suitable Westie for you taking into account your home and family circumstances. The questions ask about you, members of your household, your financial means to have a dog as well as your ability to care for a dog. If you have any questions prior to submitting your form - don't hesitate to contact us to discuss.

Please note we will not deal with third party enquiries - only the individuals looking to adopt a dog.

Please note the following points:

  • We would not recommend rehoming a young westie with elderly people
  • We do not rehome where there are young children in the home or regularly visiting children
  • In most cases we will ask for a contribution to adopt a dog. However, please contact us if this is a barrier to you adopting a dog
  • Please ensure you have written permission from your landlord to own a dog if you live in rented accommodation
  • If you are due to move house or go on holiday in the next 8 - 12 weeks we may postpone adoption as it would be unsettling for the dog as it is important they are settled and feel secure in their new home
  • We do not let our Westies be used for breeding

Adoption Contribution Guide

Having a dog is not cheap and if 'buying' a new puppy from a breeder you would expect to pay premium rates. Likewise, keeping a dog also incurs costs which we ask you about in our adoption form. Whilst we don't want finance to be a barrier to a dog going to their furever home, in most cases we ask for a contribution to adopt a dog.  This goes towards covering the costs already incurred prior to adoption which includes things like transportation, grooming, vet care, spaying or castrating. Additionally, whilst we will aim to rehome all westies in your care, some are not able to be rehomed and will stay with our fosterers for the rest of their westie life and we support those fosters with financial assistance where possible.

Whilst the rescue is run by volunteers who are generous with their time, love & care we also try and reimburse expenses if appropriate, however wherever possible we aim to ensure the funds are used for all our wonderful westies! We hope you understand why we ask for a contribution cost, but if you have any concerns please contact us to discuss.

Our contribution costs range from £250 - £750 and this is dependant on the age and circumstance of each dog.

The contribution is not refundable however, in exceptional circumstances where rehoming proves to be unsuitable for a westie, a partial refund would be considered.
